Cleveland Receives Grant to Plan for New Downtown Bridge and Corridor
The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) has awarded the City of Cleveland the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) Grant. Cleveland will receive $200,000 for the East-West Connector Corridor Plan project. This project will develop a plan and preliminary drawings for a new east-west connector corridor in downtown Cleveland. The project includes analyzing vehicle, truck, bicycle, and pedestrian needs; identifying new roadway alignments and cross-sections to better connect US 64, Highway 74, and Highway 40; and eliminating an existing at-grade railroad crossing that experiences frequent flooding with a new bridge. Mayor Kevin Brooks said, The city will hire a consultant to begin the plan within the next few months, so that they can apply for a $20 million construction grant for this project this summer. Essentially, the goal is for this grant to create data and traffic analysis to justify the federal spending on this project.
