Cleveland's Johnson named Lee University Alumnus of the Year
Cleveland Vice Mayor Avery Johnson, let, received the Honorary Alumnus of the Year Award from Lee University President Dr. Mark Walker, right. A native of Cleveland and graduate of College Hill High School, Johnson has been a member of the Cleveland City Council for nearly 30 years and spent 20 of those years as the city’s vice mayor. Johnson began working for Magic Chef, today owned by the Whirlpool Corporation, at the age of 19 and worked his way up to various management positions during his 43-year career. During his career, Johnson also attended Cleveland State Community College and the University of Tennessee-Knoxville where he received numerous certifications in leadership and government.
