East Tennessee Clean Fuels, TDEC announce diesel replacement funds

The 2024 "Reducing Diesel Emissions for a Healthier Tennessee" (RDE4HT) application period is now open.

ETCleanFuels and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) have opened applications for the 2023-2024 round of RDE4HT funding.

Application Deadline: April 23, 2024

The RDE4HT Program will fund several general categories of projects in this funding round:

  1. The replacement of eligible older diesel medium-duty (MD) and heavy-duty (HD) vehicles with new, cleaner vehicles. Propane, compressed natural gas, electric, and new diesel vehicles will be eligible as replacements with alt-fuel projects receiving a higher prioritization.
  2. The adoption of EPA-verified hybrid and/or idle-reduction technologies.
  3. The installation and use of several idle-reduction project types, including a) truck stop electrification (TSE) HVAC and/or plug-in equipment, b) electrified transport refrigeration units (eTRUs) for freight and cargo delivery trailers.

Some important points to note about vehicle replacements. The existing diesel vehicle(s):

  1. must be fully operational and have at least three years of remaining useful life;
  2. have been owned and operated by the applicant for at least two years prior to replacement or upgrade; and
  3. traveled at least 7,000 miles per year during the two years prior to replacement or upgrade. (Nonroad vehicle replacements must have accrued at least 500 hours of use per year over the last two years.)
