The town of Thompson’s Station is one of the four recipients of the second round of grantees under the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s (TDEC) Office of Energy Programs Fast Charge TN Network. Thompson’s Station has been awarded approximately $234,000 to purchase and install two publicly-accessible electric vehicle (EV) direct current fast chargers (DCFCs) at Sarah Benson Park – a town-owned public park. DCFCs can quickly charge a vehicle while the driver and passengers are visiting the park, making this site both convenient and comfortable. The chargers will also enhance offerings at the park, which include an inclusive and accessible playground financed through both TDEC’s Office of Outdoor Recreation’s Local Parks and Recreation grant fund program and grant funding from the Office of Energy Programs. The funds are part of approximately $2.7 million awarded in total that will bring 22 charging units to eight separate sites. The program is part of a partnership between TDEC and Tennessee Valley Authority to develop a statewide EV fast-charging network to power the growth of EVs across the state.
