Mona Lawrence

Mona Lawrence, former receptionist and administrative assistant for the Tennessee Municipal League, died Oct. 2, 2026, at the age of 77. Born in Cairo, Ill., and raised in Bardwell, Ky., where her father served as mayor for 25 years, Lawrence earned an associate’s degree in secretarial science from Murray State University. She served as executive secretary to Paducah, Ky.’s mayor and city manager for five years in the 1970s before becoming a route sales representative and district sales manager for Frito-Lay. In the 1980s, she and her husband Larry were the directors of CareerCom College of Business in Knoxville and in the late 1980s and 1990s she worked for Thompson and Association’s convention planning division and Andersen News Co.-Treat Entertainment. Lawrence began her work at TML in 2001, retiring from the role in 2015 after 14 years of service.
