The state’s first-ever fusion-specific byproduct material license has been issued to Clinton’s Type One Energy in preparation for a new commercial fusion project in the area. The license is also the first issued under a first-of-its-kind regulatory framework for nuclear fusion machines put in place by Tennessee. The project is a collaboration among Type One Energy, the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee Valley Authority, and University of Tennessee and will create a commercial fusion power plant using stellarator technology at the Bull Run Energy Complex in Clinton. The full startup is projected for 2034.
