Johnson City highlights local history through Black Heritage Trail

A new black history trail has been unveiled by Johnson City Parks and Recreation, guiding residents and visitors on a 1-mile walking trail through the stories and histories of figures who helped shape the community. The Johnson City Black Heritage Trail was opened with a ribbon cutting at the Langston Centre, the first of ten local landmarks on the trail including churches, schools, and businesses. Historical markers stand at each stop on the self-guided tour learning about key places, people, and moments in Johnson City history, preserving these stories for future generations. Funding for the project included $80,000 from the Tennessee Department of Health, $20,000 from Tennessee America 250, and $5,000 from Tennessee Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
