Steve Neilson

Steve Neilson has been named as the new planning director for Johnson City. Neilson comes to Johnson City from Morristown, where he spent the past decade as community development director. Prior to joining the city of Morristown, he served as Johnson City’s development coordinator from 1995 to 2016. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and public administration as well as a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from Florida State University. He also earned his master’s in city management from East Tennessee State University and received the Tennessee Distinguished Planner Award from the Tennessee Planning Leadership Council in 2012.
