Herbert Slatery
Herbert Slatery, attorney general for the state of Tennessee, has announced he will not seek a second eight-year term this fall. Slatery has served as the attorney general since his appointment to the role in 2014. Tennessee is the only state where the attorney general is appointed by the state Supreme Court. Prior to taking on the attorney general role, Slatery was the chief legal counsel to then-Gov. Bill Haslam. Prior to that, he served as campaign treasurer when Haslam ran for mayor of Knoxville. A Knoxville native, Slatery holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and his law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law.
