Martin kicks off sesquicentennial celebrations

Martin

The city of Martin will conduct a yearlong celebration of the city’s sesquicentennial. The celebration of the 150 years since Martin’s incorporation will include a digital campaign highlighting the city’s history and providing a schedule of the numerous events planned to celebration. Until May, the city will be collecting items to place into a new time capsule to replace the one placed in the city 50 years ago to mark the city’s centennial celebrations. The time capsule opening will be part of a series of events in July, beginning with a kickoff concert on July 1 and festivities on the Fourth of July. Also in July, the city will host a celebration of its agricultural heritage at the Martin Marks Market on July 29. The Tennessee Soybean Festival will celebrate its 30th anniversary in September while the city will incorporate sesquicentennial elements into its annual Martober and Christmas events. Other events planned for 2024 include a celebration of the MLK/Martin Training School, historical seminars, walking tours, and a concert series. For more information, visit www.cityofmartin.net/150th
