Charlie Stahl has retired as the assistant city manager for Johnson City after a total of 17 years with the city and nearly 40 years in local government. Stahl has served in his present role as assistant city manager since 2006 and also served as Johnson City’s budget director for nearly five years between 1984 and 1988. Stahl also served as the city treasurer and assistant city manager of Bluefield, W.Va., from 1988 to 1994 and then as the city manager of Elizabethton from 1994 to 2006. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Ursinus College and a master’s in public administration from East Tennessee State University. Stahl also achieved the rank captain in the Tennessee State Guard.
