Comptroller's office announces leadership changes

Tennessee Comptroller Jason Mumpower has announced upcoming leadership changes in the Division of Investigations.  

Jeff Puckett, who presently serves as director of investigations, retired Sept. 1, 2026, after more than four decades of public service. Puckett spent 34 years with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and a decade with the comptroller’s office. 

During his time at the office, he has helped champion legislative initiatives, strengthened partisanships with law enforcement agencies and prosecutors, and led efforts that has uncovered millions of dollars in fraud, waste, and abuse.  

During his time at TBI, he served as special agent in charge of the Middle Tennessee Field Division for six years and retired after 12 years after serving as the bureau’s deputy director. Puckett holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Middle Tennessee State University. 

Following his retirement, Christy Tennant will become the new director of investigations for the division. She presently serves as the division’s deputy director and brings more than 25 years of experience with the comptroller’s office to the role. 

In that time, Tennant served in the divisions of local government audit, state audit, and investigations. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in management information systems, both from Tennessee Technological University.
