Tennessee to receive $751.92M from Meta lawsuit

Tennessee is one of 47 states, Washington, D.C., and three U.S. territories that will share in a landmark $17.1 billion settlement with Meta Platforms, Inc., over addictive features that knowingly exposed youth users to serious mental harm and misguiding the public on its Instagram platform. Tennessee will receive more than $751.92 million from the settlement, which will go to the state’s new Children’s Digital Protection Fund. Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skremitt said the settlement is one of the largest consumer protection settlements in history and will require Meta to implement a sweeping set of safety features on Instagram and Facebook in the future. The settlement comes as Tennessee also wages a state-level trail against Meta in Davidson County Chancellery Court.
