Valk, Viar join MTAS staff

The University of Tennessee’s Municipal Technical Advisory Service (UT-MTAS) has welcomed two new employees. 

Sarah Valk has joined MTAS as a legal consultant and will be working of the Johnson City office. She comes to MTAS from Kingsport where she served as assistant city attorney. 

Prior to that, Valk worked for the firm of Smith & Davis LLP in Kingsport. She holds a bachelor’s degree in administration from Milligan College and graduated with her law degree from the UT College of Law. 

Courtney Viar has also joined MTAS as a CMFO training instructor and a finance and accounting consultant based out of the Knoxville office. Viar comes to MTAS from the Lenoir City Utilities Board where she served as director of finance and administrative operations. 

She holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Maryville College and a master’s degree in business administration from Lincoln Memorial University. Additionally, she holds both the certified municipal finance officer and certified county finance officer designations.
