Officials have broken ground on a new federal courthouse in Chattanooga. Located on Vine Street, the 191,000-square-foot courthouse will serve as the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court and the Circuit Library. It will feature seven courtrooms, nine judges’ chambers, 40 interior parking spaces, and a dedicated spaces for the U.S. Marshals Service and the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The new federal courthouse will be modeled after the 1933 Federal Building and Post Office in Chattanooga, designed in the Art Moderne style by Chattanoogan Rueben Harrison Hunt.
