Milan secures arsenal property after decade-long process
The city of Milan has completed the transfer of the former Milan Army Ammunition Plant, also known as the Milan Arsenal, from the U.S. Army. The city has purchased the site for $4.2 million, much of which came from Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) grant. This includes a recent $241,769 master planning and sewer infrastructure design grant from TNECD. The process to acquire the arsenal began 10 years ago when it was announced the 292-acre tract of the 22,541-acre property was going to be closed. Originally established in 1941, the arsenal closed officially in 2019 and was officially deactivated in 2025. The site was placed on the Environmental Protection Agency’s superfund list in 1987. City plans for the site include redevelopment for retail.
