Tennessee one of nation's fastest growing states

Tennessee had the tenth fastest-growing population in the nation between 2024 and 2025, according to a new SmartAsset study Using U.S. Census Bureau estimates, the study found Tennessee’s population increased by 0.88%, adding nearly 64,000 residents year-over-year. South Carolina was the topped rank state for growth followed by Idaho, North Carolina, Texas, and Utah. Vermont reported the least amount of growth and was one of five states where population actually decreased along with Hawaii, West Virginia, New Mexico, and California. The study also looked at the average age of state populations with Tennessee having the 14th youngest population with a median age of 39. Utah had the youngest median population with an average age of 33 while Maine had the oldest with a median age of 45.
