Germantown Fire Department receives Type 2 HazMat certification

The Germantown Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Response Team has earned the Type 2 certification, an accreditation that validates Germantown’s advanced technical expertise, specialized equipment capabilities and operational readiness to deploy rapid mutual aid in direct support of Tennessee's Homeland Security Districts. Only a few agencies across Tennessee have received this rigorous achievement, which requires proving team capabilities under demanding field conditions, including a practical evaluation conducted on a day when the heat index exceeded 100 degrees., Tennessee Emergency Management Agency Director Patrick Sheehan marked the historic achievement for the department at a recent Germantown Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting.
