Col. Darren Goods has been appointed as the new public safety advisor for the city of Memphis. Goods will report directly to the mayor and oversee both the Group Violence Intervention Program (GVIP) and the Joint Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (JONSE). He brings more than 35 years of law enforcement and juvenile justice experience, most recently having served as deputy commissioner of juvenile justice for the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services (DCS). Before joining DCS in 2021, he dedicated more than three decades to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), rising to the rank of colonel and serving as commander of the Investigative Services Bureau before retiring in 2020. He is a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and graduate of the FBI National Academy.
