Tennessee’s December 2025 unemployment rate held steady at 3.6%. The state unemployment rate has remained at 3.6% since July, though no data was recorded for October due to the government shutdown. The U.S. rate for December was 4.4%, down one-tenth of a percentage point from the previous month. Nonfarm employment in the state decreased by 5,100 jobs in December with the largest declines in the trade, transportation and utilities sector; accommodation and food services sector; and the manufacturing sector. Overall, the state added 23,000 nonfarm jobs in the past 12 months with the largest increases coming in professional and business services followed by other services and state government.
