The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has unveiled the new 20 qubit IQM Pathfinder, a new quantum computer that outperforms even the most powerful supercomputers in the world. Able to multitask and perform multiple calculations at once, the computer will help researchers solve complex equations with greater efficiency. The computer is also the laboratory’s the first commercially procured quantum computer and IQM’s first quantum computer installation in the U.S. ORNL is already home to Frontier, the world’s most powerful supercomputer for open science, and to one of the most consequential high-performance computing environments anywhere.
