Record-breaking number of applicants for this years' Tennessee Promise program
A record-breaking number of students have applied for the Tennessee Promise scholarship program, according to the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC). More than 66,000 high school seniors applied for the program as of the close of the current cycle on Nov. 1, an increase of 3.6% over the pervious year. This marks the highest number of applicants to the program since its inception in 2015. The Tennessee Promise program includes a last-dollar scholarship that provides students with the opportunity to complete an associate degere, certificate, or diploma program free of tuition and mandatory fees at public or private universities participating in the program. Students are also paired with mentors and support.
