Comptroller announces three cities to receive Financial Excellence Award

Three Tennessee cities have been honored as inaugural recipients of the Comptroller’s Financial Excellence Award.  

Tennessee Comptroller Jason Mumpower announced Goodlettsville, Nashville, and the Hendersonville Utility District received the award for achievements in Fiscal Year 2025.  

The new award is the Comptroller’s Office’s highest recognition for financial excellence among Tennessee local governments. It celebrates cities, counties, metropolitan governments, and utilities that demonstrate a strong commitment to sound financial management, accountability, transparency, and fiscal responsibility. 

“These local governments are doing more than simply meeting requirements,” said Comptroller Jason Mumpower. “They have demonstrated a strong commitment to maintaining financial practices that will serve their citizens and customers well into the future.” 

The Financial Excellence Award measures achievement in five areas: budgeting, debt management, financial management, financial oversight and accountability, and financial reporting and transparency. 

Three other awards were given to the First Utility District of Knox County, Milcrofton Utility District, and West Knox Utility District.  

“Strong local governments are essential to a strong Tennessee, and sound financial management is at the heart of that success,” said Mumpower. “I congratulate these inaugural recipients for setting an example that other local governments across our state can follow.”
