Celeste Murphy
Celeste Murphy has been selected as the first black woman to head the Chattanooga Police Department. Murphy will take over from former Chattanooga Police Chief David Roddy, who is retiring after 26 years with the department and four as chief. Murphy comes to Chattanooga from the Atlanta Police Department where she served for more than 20 years in roles including patrol officer, detective, sergeant, lieutenant, and captain. In 2016, she achieved the rank of major and was selected to lead the department’s Office of Professional Standards, which serves as its internal affairs unit.
